ABOUT THE PROJECT
In October 2021, more than a dozen community partners joined together to form The Compassion Project to provide resource options during The World Games 2022 for some of Birmingham’s most vulnerable residents – those experiencing homelessness. These citizens, who typically convene in areas that will become secured perimeter points, may have their typical living patterns, access to shelter, food, and convening spaces impacted.
The Compassion Project is a collaborative effort of Faith Chapel Care Center, God’s Loving Hands, and Food for Our Journey. This initiative being held during The World Games 2022 is part of a data-driven pilot program to explore compassionate, innovative ways to support people who are experiencing homelessness.
From July 6-18, homeless citizens will be offered access to daily hot showers, laundry services, meals, recreation opportunities, viewings of the World Games, agency referral services, mental and spiritual health support, and entertainment. For those who choose to access these services, they will be provided in a safe environment on the campus of the Faith Chapel Care Center.
The City of Birmingham and The World Games 2022 support this citizen-led effort.
This project is funded primarily by private donors and the volunteer efforts of all those involved. As a group of advocates for people experiencing homelessness, we are the drivers of The Compassion Project. We welcome entities and individuals with concerns, questions, or contributing resources to join us for this conversation around this pilot project.
If you are interested in serving with us July 6-18, please email community@faithchapel.net.
